Hello, my name is Ian and after doing my (preview/review) blogs on this site covering all the games of Euro 2016. I decided to start a new project. To try to attend as many rounds of the FA Cup 2016/2017 season starting from the very beginning. I’ve gone well so far as well, having been to the Extra Preliminary Round, the Preliminary Round and now it’s time for the First Round Qualifying. Once again I’ve decided to keep it local and go to a game in the Manchester/Greater Manchester area. In fact, this is the closest football ground to the area where I live so it was an easy option.
The ground was Shawe View and the game was a local derby between Trafford FC and Cheadle Town. I’ve been to Shawe View many times over the years but normally for Saturday afternoon league games, I was there a few weeks back though for one of their pre-season friendlies as well against FC United of Manchester. With the game being even more local than the previous two FA Cup rounds I’ve been too, I even had time to take the kids swimming after my football coaching this morning. Unfortunately on Saturday it wasn’t the most pleasant of days to be coming out of swimming, but it certainly made the game itself an interesting one and even before kick off I predicted a few goals.
I paid my £8 to get into the ground, the previous two rounds had only been a fiver but £8 was the standard price for Trafford so I knew that before we got there. I got myself a drink and headed around to the ‘away’ section of the small ground to take cover from the rain and have a sit down. With the rain tipping down, both teams tried to play football but it was becoming more difficult all the time and slowly balls were being played and chipped over the back line to try to take advantage of the slippery conditions.
Cheadle took the lead mid way through the first half but Trafford equalised within five minutes. Trafford then never looked back with the man of the match Mark Derbyshire bagging a brace before half-time to give Trafford a 3-1 lead. I myself by this point had ducked into the bar to get warm and grab a half-time beer. Twenty minutes into the second-half and ‘Darbs’ grabbed his hatrick to round off a great day for him and his team. Trafford added one more to make it five in total and Cheadle also got a late penalty to give themselves a little bit more of a respective score.
Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon out topped off with a warm pleasant evening indoors with the family watching TV. Thoughts though about what game to go to next in the Second Round Qualifying on Saturday 17th September.
