FA Cup 3rd Round Eve

Well as it’s nearly Christmas I’m getting into the spirit of things, yes this weekend is FA Cup 3rd Round Eve – but technically it’s known as the FA Cup 2nd Round. Speaking of Christmas though, some teams will be looking to get through this round at the weekend and then hopefully their present for doing so will to play a Premier League team.

A few teams will already be contemplating this and possibly think that the team they’re playing shouldn’t be a problem and that they’re already through to the next round. That is where it can all go wrong for them and we’ve seen it many times over the years and this weekend will be no different. There will be upsets, shocks and results that you will not expect to see. That is the pure beauty of this great old competition.

Have a look further down for all the fixtures this weekend, if any take your fancy and you think there is going to be a giant killing why not check out the English FA Cup betting odds at William Hill. There are always upsets remember. I’ve had a quick glance myself, but obviously these are my thoughts only, but possible upsets on Sunday could be: Curzon Ashton beating Wimbledon, Stourbridge beating Northampton Town and maybe Cambridge United beating Coventry City? We can only wait and see.

Oxford got through and went on to beat Swansea in the 3rd Round last season

It shouldn’t all be about that though, other teams will also be looking to maybe play a team just one league above them in the hope that they can cause an upset and actually keep their FA Cup run going. For most non-league teams though, they know they’re not going to win it so if they’re going to get knocked out, the sooner they play a big Premier League away from home the better. Or even at their home ground with the chance of the television cameras coming to town and the benefits of more money that will be received.

My eighth FA cup tie of the season tonight…

The FA and the BBC seemed to have enjoyed doing their Friday night FA Cup ties over the past couple of seasons and this weekend is no different. With Macclesfield Town against Oxford United live on BBC2 tonight with a 7.55pm kick off. That is where I’ll be heading to tonight as well. Myself and two friends have our match tickets booked, one of the lads should be picking them up this morning and then we’re aiming to meet at Macclesfield train station at around 5.30pm. I’d like to get out earlier but with work to do and the kids to pick up from school at 3.30pm, this is the earliest I can realistically get there. There’ll be time for a couple of pre-match beers in a pub I’m sure and then onto the ground to soak up the atmosphere and hopefully enjoy a great match.

This is going to be my eighth FA Cup tie of this season having been to all the previous rounds so far and thankfully all not far from the Greater Manchester area where I live. You can check out all my previous games and match day reports right here in fact:  My FA #CupStory 2016/17
