Rochdale's burning bins

Good old-fashioned football, eh?

Apparently it's a bit cold up in Rochdale at the moment, and the Spotland pitch is a touch frozen.

With Dale set to face AFC Bournemouth in League Two action this weekend, the club is facing a race against time to avoid a postponement.

The solution? Rochdale have strategically placed a bunch of old oil drums around the pitch and set fire to them.

The Bournemouth Echo takes up the story:

"Premier League referee Lee Mason has carried out a precautionary inspection of the Spotland playing surface ahead of Saturday's scheduled Coca Cola League 2 game. Mason was encouraged by the condition of most of the pitch and could see the improvements brought about by the burning bins. The temperatures are set to rise over night."

Warms yer cockles, doesn't it?
