Why David Beckham will be good for Major League Soccer

Greetings from not-so-sunny North Devon, where a lovely week with my good lady in an apartment with a staggering view over Westward Ho! beach has been soured by weather wetter than paper shoes in the gents at the old Wembley.

My only contacts with football have been a sly eye over the transfer of Stewart Downing to Villa, occasionally seething at the image of Harry f*cking Redknapp and - like many observers of Major League Soccer - reading Grant Wahl's book The Beckham Experiment from cover to cover. Well worth it for anyone interested in the American game, it's fantastic.
