Joe Kinnear: desperately seeking marbles

Friday, 3 October 2008

I don't usually go in for the short posts, but this one was just too good to pass by.

Following Joe Kinnear's slightly random appointment as interim manager/ringmaster at Newcastle United for six/eight/two weeks, depending on who you believe, the former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest boss followed ably in the wonky, insane footsteps of Kevin Keegan by venting his 'dismay' at some negative coverage.

His foul-mouthed attack on assembled hacks was surprising to say the least, and related to stories that United's players missed training on Monday. Kinnear wasn't happy. My favourite part, however, was when a Magpies press officer attempted to persuade the journalists to leave the air turning blue in the room without reporting it. When you read it or listen to it, you'll know how unlikely that was.

Transcript here and audio here. Bloody hilarious.
