Dion Dublin to launch The Dube

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

Gone are the days of ex-footballers opening backstreet boozing holes in order to see them through their abnormally long retirement. Awaiting them now is a comfortable career in the football media or, should they choose, a lazy life of unimaginable luxury.

Still, it's always nice to see them trying their hand at something new. Former Coventry City and Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin, a player whose interest in music has been well known for years, would appear to be chucking his wiles behind a new venture: The DUBE.

According to its website, which may or may not be genuine (and was flagged up to my good friend 'Xann' over at VillaTalk):
"The unique percussion instrument is ex-international footballer Dion Dublin's invention. A stylish cube percussion instrument which comes in four sizes and can be totally customised in colour schemes and tones. It's ideal for musicians, in schools, even DJ sets, the list is endless."
And there we were thinking percussion had reached its peak with the Jingling Johnny!

Does anyone else get the inkling that Dublin only played footy on weekends to support his weeknight DJ gig that catered to wakes and wedding receptions?

This is still really cool - and inventing a contraption is much more profitable than owning a bar or restaurant.
